View Full Version : Anyone got a 10D they want to sell me?

Hi, all. Once again I'm at a crossroads. Do I spend about fifteen hundred bucks this summer on some new (and used) glass for my not-entirely-satisfying Pentax *istDS and stay with that platform, or do I take the bitter pill and switch platforms? You guys have convinced me that Canon is the way to go, and I guess if I could get in the door cheaply enough, now is probably the time to make the switch.

So, anyone got a well-used 10D they're thinking of getting rid of? I'll say up front that it's going to have to be pretty cheap to be workable for me, but you can rest assured that it will be well taken care of and will certainly see lots of use. I don't particularly care what condition it's in, as long as technically it is solid.

Yes I believe he wants to sell acanon, not sure if it is the 10 or what, why don't you look for a nikon d70 now the d70s is out , a brilliant camera and new only 8-900 bucks so secondhand I think 300

I've been thinking about it for a while, and I'm pretty sure I want to go with Canon over Nikon. From what I've seen I like the lens lineup better in the Canon and it seems like it might be a cheaper route to take. I still haven't made any final decisions, though. Pentax has a new (I believe) 12-24mm zoom coming out and I could pick up a used Pentax SMC 28mm and 35mm pretty cheap, and that would pretty well take care of the wide angle end of the spectrum where I do most of my shooting.

I do have a Canon I would sell :) , but it is the old D30 :( .

I use my 10D when more than one body is needed, and as my backup in case something happens to my 20D. (Has happened once already).

Sorry brother. Have you checked the usual suspects? (Ebay, local shop for used equipment?).

Kevin, not trying to change the subject but I've had a 20D for about a month now and have had no problems. What happened to yours? Is this something I need to watch out for?

Nothing bad, just had to get the sensor cleaned, which requires it to be sent out which took about 2 weeks.

Naw, not yet. The nearest shop that might possibly have something like a used 10D is an hour and a half away, and I don't necessarily trust places like EBay. I was hoping to keep it all in our little family here and deal with people I know I can trust.

Yes I like the d70, not that i have any experience with the canon but this year i have used a lot a d70. Compared to my olympus e20n it is so much faster in start up and writing to the memory card. Even under bad light with the help of a little light what lights up the subject the autofocus is fast and seccond to none . It feels good in the hand, its bigger than the canon, a complaint I have heard and read about, and it produces fantastic coloured and crisp images that I miss with the E20. It is a shame that they did not increase the pixels with the new D70s, although that could also show you how confident Nikon is about their overal quality of theit product. in the last head on test with the canon 20d in wich the latter just won, there was hardly a noticable difference in the quality that the 6 million Nikon producced over the 8 million Canon processor. Taken the huge price difference between the d70 and 20 d almost $650 when purchased new I think I would go with the nikon and use the difference in money to buy a speedlight flash which I used too and of which i was well impressed with the power , resload time and overall quality.
But in the end the choice has to be yours, but thanks for trusting my opinion.
From one smart a££ to another, cheers :D

By the way have a look at the forum article on the index page about d70 pan etc and follow the link to this members website, they are all taken with a d70 and wide angle lens, nice shots.link to (http://www.fotogb.com/yfho)

I looked at the Nikons just for the heck of it, but I prefer the feel of the Canon, although it may be just that I am so used to it by now...The D70 has been getting decent reviews and the price is right. In my case, I stick with Canon since I have the glass to go with it, but since you are making a switch, I think you need to take a close look at both and see which one feels right to you.

Good Luck and let us know.

I spent a little time perusing the Nikon website yesterday, as well as B&H, KEH, and EBay, and I'm still leaning towards picking up a used Canon 10D. I was discouraged by the prices I saw for used bodies (generally around $750-850, compared to $775 for a NEW D70), but I still think I like the Canon lens line better. I'm sure the quality of both lines is excellent, but the Canon line seems a little more versatile, and generally less expensive.

My greatest frustration with my Pentax is with the glass I'm using, so I'm still teetering on the edge of taking that hypothetical $850 and picking up a new Pentax DA 12-24mm, but that's a lot of semolians to drop on a lens for something that might end up just being a failed experiment...

I found an interesting website, but didn't feel like starting a new thread to announce it, so here it is:

www.travisruse.com (http://www.travisruse.com)

It's a guy in Brooklyn who apparently only shoots on the subway. I didn't look at the whole site but some of it is remarkable.

Okay, just by way of a quick update, I've decided to spend a couple hundred bucks on some used Pentax wide-angle prime lenses rather than switch platforms. That'll hopefully keep me going through the summer and maybe for the next year or two without making any large investments. I'm still interested in switching platforms, but I think I'll wait and see what Canon and Nikon (well, and Pentax) come up with and see what the prices do over the next couple of years...

Good luck with your choice, just makes it more difficult to change in the long run, more lenses etc. that is if you change

I'm pretty sure I'll be making a platform change sooner or later, unless Pentax comes out with a new body that just blows me away (and that I can eventually afford).

I'm not going to spend much money on this latest upgrade, most likely less than five hundred bucks over the next six months or so. In fact, I've got a used 17mm f/3.5 that should be waiting on my porch for me when I get home today... :) Woo Hoo!!!
