540EZ with G3 (or new G5)

Does anyone know whether I would get TTL metering with my old 540EZ flash if I buy a Canon G3 or new G5? The specs say that the cameras work with the EX series flashes but do not mention the older ones.

Unfortunately with the 540 EZ it wasn't designed with digitals in mind. It won't work in TTL mode let alone E-TTL mode which the EX series Speedlites support.

However it will work in full manual mode and if you're happy with that its a great flash to work with and they come cheap these days.

Darn... so I could just as well buy an Olympus or Nikon digital camera and get the same use out of my 540EZ flash and off camera flash accessories... just straight manual mode?
