Hey all, I would like to see how many of yah are Pentax Users, in the Subject place the number... Im number one, so the next number is 2 and so on. Also I would like to see how many of you use the *IST-D DSLR. so in the subject put a *IST-D next to your general number.
Hey and any coments for improving the pentax forum etc, new news, etc are welcome
I put up a poll so it has instant results, so i would also like to see what your equpiment set-up is like
Thanks all

No Pentax for me. :(

Ways to make the Pentax forum better, is to have more posts in it. I try and spread the word about this site in general. I also include a link to the site when I make posts on other forums. Maybe go out and just spread the word a bunch.

The one thing I really like about this site is the ability to host all my photos here, as well as the ability to discuss all these different ideas. Most sites are either just forums or just hosting.

Not a Pentax user either, although I had one in the early 90's that I really liked. Took excellent pictures. I gave it away to a charity and I am sure they are still using it.

I agree with Shooter, go our there and recruit some Pentax users. There are a lot of them out there. I always see Pentax users when I hit the tourist areas.

Brenden, I just signed in and not sure how to use this forum, and not sure what number I was supposed to enter. I just bought a ist D for Christmas and am learning how to use it. A big factor in buying the ist D was that I had owned a Pentax ME and have a number of lenses that could be used on the ist D. So far it has amazed me how good the camera is.

make shure you have the firmware upgrade to v1.10 this alows full compatability with your older "m/k" lenses... also i have found that if you hold tthe depth of field preview so the appiture closes, the in camera meater turns on (put cam in manual with like a old k/m lens on) and reflects the appiture changes etc, this helps you from constinaly hitting the little "auto exposure" button

Thanks, I did what you said and using an M lens in manual and using preview, it shows changes in the speed as the AV dial is changed but it never shows the actual aperture. Why do they not show the aperture setting? Perhaps I am doing something wrong.

with m/k lenses (and a/f-fa with appiture set to anything other than "a" lenses for that face) the info is not displayed in any case... with the older m/k lenses they have no contacts what so ever so they can not transmit any tech data, their a full manual lens i think maby one firmwire update in the future may alow "a-fa" lenses to transmit appiture data when not set to "a" (like in the film bodies like mz-s) well i hope i answered ur question

Hope I counted them right.

Am an *istD user, got some nice primes with it, not much else. The *istD is my first Pentax, I had an analog Nikon and switched to Pentax 'cause Nikon is way too expensive for me.

Count me in.

Started using Pentax equipment in the '70's when my wife worked for a photo equipment supply house and borrowed the odd Pentax from the rental department from time to time. The rental manager stood by the brand as the pillar of his 35mm rental inventory as "indestructible" and totally reliable.

From those early beginnings, I have had;

-ME-F (died an untimely death, after years of use, due to "un-fixable" problems in the electronics...gone but not forgotten)
-P-30 (my spare and manual enough to still work with my bellows attachment)
-P-3 (picked up used to have as a spare...currently on loan to an in-law who could be getting the photography bug and maybe, just maybe a future Pentax owner).
-MZ-S (the two "P's" were short on features and besides I thought I deserved this beautiful peace of equipment after years lusting over the brochures)
-*ist-D (Recent addition, purchased in the post Christmas sales).

Love the equipment and every day I realize I have so much more to learn...that's why I'm here.

Hi,

I use the MZ-S and MZ-5N with the following lenses.

Sigma 15mm EX fisheye;
Pentax FA 20mm f2.8;
Sigma 28mm f1.8 EX DG;
Pentax FA 50mm f1.4;
Pentax FA 77mm f1.8 limited;
Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro; &
Sigma 70-200 EX f2.8.

Also have 2 consumer-grade Sigma zooms which never see the light of day nowadays.

Waiting for the sensors to get a bit more serious (and affordable) before going digital.

Cheers,
Paul Zab

Hi all,

I'm new to the site and I'm here because of the istD.

Have been a pentax user for about 31 years now. I fell in love with the Pentax and SMC lenses a long time back and as a serious amateur and processing all my own black and white in the early years got my daughter interested in photography. She now holds a diploma in the visual arts and a Bachelor of Arts in photography.
Between us we have owned a number of Pentax.

Spotmatic F.
K 1000
ME Super
Super A, (my favourite for many years)
And now the istD

Other cameras include a 4x5 studio camera and a Canon Powershot S3 Digital.

I've had the istD for about four months now and am enjoying every minute of it.
I look forward to posting some of my work soon for your critique.

Nico. :)

Nico, Welcome
On behalf of the Pentax forum I welcome you to the Pentax Digital age.
I have to recomend you get the grip for the Ist-D (the DS does not offer this option) This option ads a little bulk if you have big hands, but also 2x the batteries, and a vertical shutter.
If you have any questions let me know, I have had mine for 1.5 years now and love it, Im close to 40,000 frames taken (and yes my computer now has 1/2 a terabight of mem to suport my memory and back-up habit for my DSLR and digitised film etc.
anyhow, have a great day

Hi everyone. This is my first post, so I'll keep it basic.

I've been shooting with Pentax cameras for a little over ten years and currently own several, including:

Asahi Spotmatic SP
An early K-mount body whose model number escapes me (maybe an SE?)
Two K-1000's
ZX-5n
and as of January 2005 an *istDS (with over 3,500 exposures already)

I've got several Takumar screw mount lenses that I use regularly as well as an old Honeywell screw mount bellows unit and a full set of extension tubes which I have a tremendous amount of fun with.

I've got a bag full of seven K-mount lenses ranging from 19mm to 500mm, some Pentax, some from third party manufacturers.

I love to shoot landscapes and wildlife, but it's really friggin' cold here much of the time so I spend my winters shooting macro photographs of various subjects in my apartment.

WELCOME!
I almost have the same bag of bodies with the exception of the K1000, I have an MX to fill that area. I also have a MZ-S, for a digital i have the ordiginal D, not the DS. My frame count is about 60k... I know alot!
anyhow welcome to ThePhotoStation, and as un-official Pentax Headmaster, its good to here from another pentaxian. Any quesstions just ask.

Thanks for the welcome.

A correction: the "early K-mount body" I referred to is an ES, not an SE.

New here. Have been working w/Pentax equipment forever. I have a couple of MX bodies (silver & black) w/winders and an ME Super w/winder that I still do some work with but the bulk of my current work is done with the *ist D. I have invested in an array of Pentax lenses over the years so I ordered the *ist D as soon as it was announced to be able to continue using my lens collection as I upgraded to digital. (Had to wait the better part of a year for actual delivery due to last minute production changes etc.) I even have some screw mount lenses that I still like to use via adapter. There were some custom menu settings that allowed the old lenses to be used on the body prior to the firmware upgrade but in-camera metering wasn't possible. I still carry an ancient handheld light meter in my bag and I got by with it until the upgrade simplified things.
