Traditional in design but executed with a modern, compact styling, Nikon have announced today, 18th Feb 2003, two new models aimed at the family and recreational photographer.
Conceived in response to the booming interest in general digital photography, the two new cameras are specifically designed to offer a perfect combination of quality, ease of use, portability and affordability.
Weighing in at only 150g and comparable in size to a pack of playing cards, the 2.0 megapixel Coolpix 2100 and 3.2 megapixel Coolpix 3100 still have room for a 1.5 inch monitor for instant review of results and a 3 x optical with an additional 4x digital zoom for landscapes vistas to intimate close-ups.
Small in size and weight, the cameras feature the latest generation of Nikon's optical design and image processing technology resulting in outstanding pictures of strong, vibrant colour and sharp detail. The resolution of the Coolpix 2100 model will produce prints of up to A4 and the Coolpix 3100 stretches this by a further 50% to B4.
Although one of the most respected names in professional photography, Nikon's new generation of cameras aren't difficult to use or complicated - a general purpose Auto mode makes taking a great picture just a matter of point-and-shoot under most conditions, with a built in flash and software to intelligently reduce the red-eye effect when people are caught staring at the camera. For special occasions the camera can be set to one of 14 preset Scene modes such as "Beach", "Party" and "Sunset" to capture the atmosphere of a unique event. Four of the modes offer a new on-screen Scene Assistance feature to help novices achieve a perfect picture composition.
The camera can take pictures one at a time or in a continuous sequence and can even shoot TV- sized movie clips. As would be expected from a specialist manufacturer, the focus distance ranges from infinity to as close as 4cm and darkroom effects such as old-fashioned black and white, sepia toning, sunlight sparkles and halos can be added to enhance the mood of any picture.
Also new to the Coolpix 3100 and Coolpix 2100 models is the possibility to automatically imprint a date-stamp on any picture. Transfer from the camera to computer is easy with the included Nikon View software which also enables photos to be organised, edited, e-mailed, printed in simple to select pre-set layouts and uploaded to Nikon's free on-line Fotosharing web-site.
The camera is supplied complete with rechargeable batteries and charger, memory card, USB cable and software.
